I have always been drawn to the beauty, strength, feel, and diversity of wood. George Nakashima begins his book, The Soul of a Tree, with the words, “A tree provides perhaps our most intimate contact with nature.” When I look at a piece of wood I recognize that it was alive at one time – breathing in its own ways. And for me that piece of wood still has life in it. My goal is to draw inspiration from the wood to guide me in creating shapes and forms that allow its natural beauty to be seen and touched, and to move all who look upon it.
